What is Carrier RNA is made of?

The Carrier RNA included with the NucleoSpin RNA kits is lyophilized Poly(A) RNA Potassium salt, prepared from ADP with polynucleotide phosphorylase. The benefit of adding Carrier RNA to the sample lysate depends on downstream RNA analysis. If your downstream application is just RT-qPCR, then Carrier RNA will not interfere with your cDNA synthesis.
The carrier RNA is used to saturate unspecific potential binding places for nucleic acids (e.g on plastic materials) in order to increase the sensitivity and yield.
The rest of the carrier RNA will be co-purified with RNA.
The Carrier RNA has a length of 100-1000 nt.

If you are generating RNA-seq libraries you should avoid using any type of carriers, including Carrier RNA.

Besides, Carrier RNA distorts the RNA concentration.
